Sony PRS 505 Portable Digital e Reader System Silver

The new Reader (model PRS-505) features a svelte body design. Re-styled controls more closely mimic paper page turns and allow for quick, intuitive navigation.A next-generation electronic paper display delivers faster response and a higher contrast ratio for easy reading even in bright sunshine. Eight levels of gray scale provide for crisp and clear text, images, and graphics. This device is designed for people on the go, this device is compelling because it allows them to carry a wide variety of reading materials whether they are on a cross-country flight, in a doctor’s office waiting room, or at a beach resort. The Reader can handle a stack of books and other documents that people would rather not carry, yet offers a ‘book-like’ reading experience unavailable with other electronic devices. With the capacity to store up to 160 typical eBooks, the Reader can act as a mobile library. Expansion slots for Memory Stick Duo media or SD memory cards make the device’s library potential practically limitless.More advanced users will appreciate the USB-based mass storage capability that allows them to use the device as a portable drive for the direct transfer of documents, images and other files to the Reader. A new auto sync feature also lets users set up folders with books and documents that can be automatically synchronized when the device is connected to a PC.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Your personal bookshelf in hand
I carry all my ebooks -pdf,doc’s,txt’s etc in this Sony m/c. Its interface can be made more simplified. It is like the first generation mp3 players wehre you have to go throught he manufacturers software to load files. But with an 8GB card I have all my documents ready and available anytime of the day and I carry it everywhere in my bag. When bored in a bus, or waiting in a bus stop , trainstop, etc. I have option to read and catch up with old stuff that I have downloaded for future read. I would give it a 4/5. Sony could have very well made a more simplified one for that 250$. It only needs to read text & picture files. But as a product I would give 5/5 as it would avoid carrying a heavy laptop or a difficult to read small screen of a smart phone or a pda.

4 Stars Great but can’t read outside!!!
I totally love my Sony Reader. I have the 505 and it is the perfect size. I love that I can change the font size. Do not like not having a backlight but that’s ok. My only issues seems to be, If I read outside, the screen fades. I have to be in the shade. Don’t understand it. That is the only flaw I can find. Anyone else have this problem?

5 Stars Grear ebook reader
This is a great ebook reader and with the latest version of the software 3.0 it now finally works on the mac. i love the e ink technology although this is not a sony speific feature i just think its cool. the software is fantastic almost a direct copy of itunes but hey itunes is good too so i guess sony had good reason in not trying to reinvite the wheel. the only issue is the battery. it is not user removable and if you want sony to replace it it will cost about the same price as a new reader will. but it is a great piece of hardware the interface is very good and very simple. all in all a great device now if only they would add 3g like the kindle and make a replaceable battery there would be no reason to get a kindle.
