User Ratings and Reviews
1 Star Wayyyy overpriced!
These Kindles are worth maybe $100.00 at the most, they are way over priced, considering you can get a Netbook for $299.00 and it does more!
4 Stars I can’t live without it! It’s a bookstore at your finger-tips!
I’m an avid reader and I’ve been finding reasons why I shouldn’t get the Kindle when it came out. But if you’re like me and you’re running out of room to keep your favorite books, then the Kindle is for you. For a few months, I wavered on a Kindle II or the Kindle DX. I was just so torn. Trust me, I wasn’t sure about spending that money for the Kindle DX. But it’s SO WORTH IT! But now that I have it, I find myself reading more and more.
I can read samples of books, which is great. I’m one of those who can read after a few pages whether I’m going to like the book or not. But, I like that I can read PDF! This is by far, the greatest feature of DX. The text is so clear and to be quite honest, it IS like reading a book. I know I know. You’re thinking, “but I love the smell of a book!” Well I do too. But after reading a few books on my Kindle DX, I found that it’s really not that important! Book smell or no book smell – I still enjoyed my story.
The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is that you can’t replace the battery. This might be a problem in the future AND the warranty DOES NOT COVER the battery. So if you’re going to buy this, DON’T BUY THE WARRANTY. It’s ridiculously over-priced and doesn’t cover what it SHOULD cover.
But kudos for Amazon for making a great book cover for the Kindle DX. They need to make it in different colors!
2 Stars Good Idea. Poor Execution. Worse Return Policy
I purchased a Kindle DX when it was first released. At first, I thought it was fantastic. But I immediately started having problems with the battery. I would charge it all night, and the next morning it would indicate a full battery. Then, I was use it for about an hour, and it would say the battery needed to be recharged. It would not hold a charge. The process was sporadic. The next day it might charge up and hold the charge. I had the battery issue 4 times while I had it.
The device also froze up on me twice, and I started to realize that I had a lemon. I didn’t have any idea how to get help. I turned to Amazon.
I went to the site and could not find anything. So, I decided to return the device. I filled out the information and got the return authorization. I had the device only a couple of weeks and it was well within the return period.
I sent back the device and waited for Amazon to return my money. When they processed the return, they decided to keep $150.00. WOW! Where did it say that? I had no idea they were going to steal this money from me. I had a legitimate problem with the device and they ripped me off.
I think it’s a good idea, but they just have some serious defects in the manufacturing process. I might have given them some time and purchased. But I don’t feel like getting ripped off again. DON’T BUY THIS UNLESS YOU ARE SURE!! The return policy is a bad deal, and they just keep your money.
